The award categories this year are:
- Visionary Client Service Law firm of the Year, Asia
- Visionary Client Service Law firm of the Year, Middle East
- Visionary Client Service Law firm of the Year, South Africa
- Visionary Client Service Law firm of the Year, International
- Visionary Non-Law Firm Legal Services Provider
The above awards will be independently judged* and announced as part of the In-House Community Awards (#IHCawards2019) in May this year.

General counsel have shared with the In-House Community that the three prevailing challenges they face on a day-to-day basis are: managing costs and evaluating value-add; talent and career management; and positioning the legal department within the company (see In-House Community White Paper 2017).
By reverse-engineering these key challenges, we set the challenge for legal service providers of any shape or form and from anywhere on the new spectrum of legal services to demonstrate that they can truly stand in the shoes of their clients and provide inspiring service. So, rather than asking firms how much they pay their senior equity partners, we asked them to quantify the following:
- client-driven technological solutions your firm has initiated recently;
- budget-orientated project management for a client;
- exceeding client expectations.
As the Nobel-prize winning work of Daniel Kahneman attests, finding constructive incentives for individuals does in turn help society to prosper. It is our sincere wish that the private practice legal community embrace new ways to benchmark their services that emphasizes team effort and sincere client service. It is for this reason that we created the Visionary Client Service Legal Providers Awards.
Equally, as there are many new non-law firms providing in-house counsel with diverse services, we have again provided a category for non-law firms to provide examples of their client service excellence, thus broadening the field of merit.
Similarly, we encourage in-house counsel to recommend to us legal providers that have gone that extra mile and we in turn will encourage them to put in a submission.
