KhattarWong senior staff depart to form new firm

More than 100 staff, including 24 partners and managing partner Tan Chong Huat, have left major Singapore law firm KhattarWong to set up a new firm, RHT Law, it has been reported.
According to local media reports, seven equity partners and 17 salaried partners have followed Tan to the new operation, whose letters come from the initials of three of its five senior partners: Rajah Menon, Hee Theng Fong and Tan, who will be managing partner and head of corporate and securities.
Among the high profile lawyers to make the move are Subhas Anandan, head of KhattarWong’s criminal litigation department, who joins RHT as its head of civil and criminal litigation and a senior partner.
Reports suggest the departures were prompted by differences over the direction of KhattarWong going forward. At the annual partners’ conference earlier this year, the firm did not appoint a new managing partner – an elected executive board is for the time being in charge of management.
RHT Law’s practice areas include banking, finance, corporate, civil and criminal litigation and intellectual property.
KhattarWong is reportedly recruiting a number of new lawyers to fill vacancies in its IPT, corporate and securities departments.
