| São Paulo lawyer Eduardo Leite, who currently heads Baker & McKenzie’s Global Energy, Mining & Infrastructure practice, has been elected the next Chairman of the firm’s Executive Committee. Leite will succeed John Conroy, who has served on the firm’s Executive Committee since 1998 and who will have served two terms as Chairman, when he takes on the role from 30 October this year. An accomplished energy, infrastructure projects, and M&A lawyer, Leite appears well-qualified for the role, having served alongside Conroy on the Executive Committee from 1999 to 2003 and having chaired the firm’s Policy Committee in 2005. Since 2003, he has also been the managing partner of each of the firm’s four offices in Brazil, and previously spent several years working in Baker & McKenzie’s Chicago and Miami offices.
The Executive Committee – consisting of eight elected partners including the Chairman – is the firm’s primary management team, with responsibility for developing and implementing Baker & McKenzie’s global business strategy as well as managing its day-to-day business. Since adopting and implementing its current strategy in 2004, Baker & McKenzie has increased its global fees by 72 percent to US$2.11 billion, and increased profits per partner by 52 percent whilst growing rather than shrinking its partner ranks. |
