Spearheading the firm’s third practice in Asia, partners David Zhang and Chuan Li launched Kirkland & Ellis’ newest office in Beijing on 17 September. The decision was sparked by a need to physically align the firm with many of its clients in one of China’s key markets, Zhang explained. “Having a strong on the ground presence in Beijing will better position us to access and efficiently serve our target client base.”
“Staying close to our clients is a fundamental tenet of our business model and by being in Beijing we can provide even better service to global and Chinese private equity firms, Chinese state-owned enterprises and as well as rapidly growing Chinese private companies,” added Li. Zhang is the firm’s most senior Chinese lawyer and his career has been studded with high profile going-private transactions including numerous Hong Kong IPO’s and Rule 144A and Regulation S offerings of equity, debt and convertible securities. Li is a founding partner of the firm’s Hong Kong and Shanghai offices and specialises in large and mid-market private equity funds and China outbound investments. |
