18th annual Hong Kong In-House Congress draws biggest audience yet

The In-House Community’s 18th annual Hong Kong In-House Congress event attracted more than 400 delegates to the JW Marriott for a packed day of workshops and discussions.Once again, the event brought together leading in-house lawyers, chief executives, company directors and compliance professionals from both the private and public sectors in Hong Kong.

The day started with a full house for the plenary session, which looked at how in-house legal teams should make the best use of external counsel and alternative legal providers to strike the right balance between cost, quality and value. Evangelos Apostolou, president of EMEA for SirionLabs and former Asia-Pacific general counsel for Ernst & Young and BT, led an experienced panel that comprised BT’s head of legal for North-East Asia and Japan, Lara Lightbody; Intel’s group counsel for Greater Asia sales and marketing, Winston Kiang; general counsel for Ant Financial Services Group, Leiming Chan; head of global client development for Eversheds Hong Kong, Stephen Hopkins; and head of Asia for Addleshaw Goddard, Nigel Francis.

Delegates then broke out into a series of workshops for the rest of the day, covering a broad range of topics from anti-corruption enforcement to cyber security, followed by a prize draw to crown the day.

New spectrum

One key theme at the Congress was the new spectrum of legal services available to in-house counsel, which was discussed during the Plenary and by many throughout the day. Developments in this area will be addressed in an article by In-House House Community director Patrick Dransfield and David Miles in the next edition of Asian-mena Counsel.

The event’s success was underscored by positive feedback from senior in-house counsel:

“This year’s Congress exceeded my expectations. The topics were spot-on and relevant to my daily work as in-house counsel”“First-class speakers … a really informative event”

“The best In-House Congress I’ve attended”

Thank you to all who made our 18th anniversary so meaningful!
