Freshfields launches in Singapore

Targeting sectors which it believes to be extremely active in Singapore, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is launching an office in the city-state. The office will focus on finance and corporate work and it will leverage the island’s reputable arbitration centre to home in on arbitration as well. The office opens on the back of client demand for assistance in Asia’s high growth markets and in the ASEAN generally.

The office will be headed up by partners Stephen Revell and Gavin MacLaren. Revell will relocate from Hong Kong and will lead the firm’s global capital markets practice while MacLaren, who recently joined Freshfields, will manage the South East Asian practice. Lucy Reed will helm the firm’s international arbitration group.

Freshfields’ Asia Managing Partner, Robert Ashworth commented that the firm has ambitious plans for the office and “by being on the ground, Freshfields will meet the need for integrated legal advice on complex cross border deals and disputes.”
