| A team of 14 lawyers have left US firm, Hunton & Williams’ Bangkok outpost to join Rajah & Tann’s office in Bangkok. The exodus, which took place earlier this month, strengthens Singapore firm’s Rajah & Tann’s offering in the Kingdom’s capital.
The 14-strong contingent was made up of Surasak Vajasit (the sole partner from Hunton & Williams) as well as 13 associates, two of whom included senior associates, Pakporn Suntornvipat and Melisa Uremovic who both join Rajah & Tann as partners. After the new fee-earners were annexed, Rajah & Tann’s headcount doubled to 30 lawyers. Vajasit is a specialist in restructuring, arbitration and corporate work and joined the US firm in 2005 when it moved in to the Bangkok office of the now-defunct Coudert Brothers. The new additions come on the back of a steady and strategic expansion by the Singapore-based firm designed to shore up capabilities around the region. These included a string of tie-ups including an association with Christopher & Lee Ong in Malaysia, the collaboration with Vietnamese firm LCT lawyers in February 2014 and the tie-up with local firms in Myanmar and Cambodia as well as with Assegaf Hamzah in Indonesia. |
