| The government of Singapore has announced the award of six Qualifying Foreign Law Practice (QFLP) licenses, marking the liberalisation of the legal services sector in the nation. The licenses went to: Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance, Herbert Smith, Lathan & Watkins, Norton Rose, and White & Case. Applications for the QFLP opened in August, with the government initially announcing it would award only five firms with the qualification. Under the new scheme, foreign law practices will be allowed to practise Singapore law in permitted areas and employ Singapore-qualified lawyers. Previously, foreign law practices were only permitted to practise Singapore law within a Joint Law Venture through a Singapore law practice. |
