 Squire Patton Boggs has hired Haig Oghigian to lead its international arbitration practice in Tokyo.Oghigian was previously Tokyo head of commercial disputes at K&L Gates and a former co-chairman of Baker & McKenzie’s litigation and dispute resolution practice. He has experience in the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors, and has advised on matters related to mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, licence and distribution agreements as well as market-entry compliance and regulatory issues. A former Canadian diplomat in Japan, Oghigian will also assist clients with regulatory and government relations matters, working closely with the firm’s public policy practice. “[Oghigan] is well-known and respected for his arbitration experience in Tokyo, as both a sitting arbitrator and party advocate,” said George von Mehren, global chair of Squire Patton Boggs’s international dispute resolution practice. “With an increasing emphasis in Asia on international arbitration, [he] will complement our existing global strength and help drive our practice in this region.” He is the second senior appointment to be made by the firm in Tokyo recently, after the hire of cybersecurity partner Scott Warren, the former general counsel for Sega and senior attorney at Microsoft Japan, in July. “Haig’s cross-border arbitration capabilities and experience in the pharmaceutical and life science sectors in Japan nicely complement and enhance our Asia Pacific regional practice in these areas and globally,” said Ken Kurosu, Asia practice coordinator and Tokyo managing partner. |
