Charles Russell Speechlys has added Stephen Chan as a partner within the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution department. Joining the firm’s Hong Kong office from Ince & Co Hong Kong, Chan specialises in complex and high value commercial litigation and arbitration. He has over 15 years of experience handling multi-jurisdictional fraud and asset tracing involving freezing, gagging and other urgent interim injunctive measures, which have particular synergies with the growing cryptocurrency and virtual asset area. He is also well-versed advising on technology-related disputes, shareholder and company disputes, and contentious employment matters. Many of his cases have an international element, and Chan has a particular tie to the US, Europe and China. In addition, he has strong capabilities in international arbitration work arising from a broad range of commercial disputes across a range of sectors, including private wealth, financial services and technology. He has experience in most of the world’s leading arbitral seats (including London, Hong Kong and Singapore) and under the rules of key arbitral institutions (including HKIAC, SIAC, ICC and UNCITRAL rules). Chan is a member of the Law Society of Hong Kong’s Arbitration Committee. He is admitted to practice in Hong Kong, and is a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand. He speaks fluent English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
